02.09.2010  Allied Waste Recycles Glass At New Huntsville Recyclery Green Mountain Glass 
Allied Waste was under fire for throwing away glass residents had recycled, but a new general manager helped clean up their act. They started trucking the glass to Atlanta instead. That was costing the company around $1,000 dollars a trip, but a partnership with Green Mountain Glass, a new recyclery in Huntsville, has taken away that burden.

It is a non-returnable bottle with a 6.5 oz. capacity and is already in the marketplace. Vidriera Querétaro is responsible for manufacturing the entire requirement of glass bottles. 

01.09.2010  Friendly neighbours: Scheuten & Rimas 
Although Rimas Systems supplies module manufacturing equipment to a worldwide market, from South Africa to Canada and from Europe to China, it will always remember how it became familiar with the PV market. This was partly thanks to Scheuten Solar. Together with Shell Solar Scheuten was one of the first customers for Rimas with regard module production lines. In 2010 the warm relationship still continues. Recently yet another shipment of equipment has been installed. 

01.09.2010  Vitro America acquires Desert Glass Products 
Vitro America LLC, Memphis, announced that it has acquired substantially all production and inventory assets of glass fabricator, Desert Glass Products LLC, Las Vegas. Vitro America will assist Desert Glass in fulfilling certain customer commitments, and plans to offer employment to qualified employees of Desert Glass, according to an Aug. 20 release 

01.09.2010  Federal stimulus plan provides fleeting relief to construction industry 
Industry sources say the recent uptick in construction jobs will likely be fleeting since it is based on federal stimulus dollars that will soon dry up. "There are few signs of life in privately funded construction, and state and local budget deficit projections are forcing further cuts in non-stimulus public projects," said Ken Simonson, chief economist at the Associated General Contractors of America, in prepared remarks.

August 27, 2010, will mark the 75th anniversary of the death of Otto Schott (1851 – 1935). The glass chemist and entrepreneur is considered to be the pioneer of modern glass science and glass technology and the founder of the special glass industry. 

31.08.2010  GPI plans wide range of activities for second-annual Recycle Glass Week 
During the Glass Packaging Institute’s (GPI) second annual Recycle Glass Week, September 12-18, 2010, communities across the U.S. will unite with glass container manufacturers, suppliers, and recyclers to hold glass nationwide activities and events to build awareness and boost glass bottle recycling. GPI will also announce its 21st annual Clear Choice Awards winners, and recognize Friends of Glass, those organizations or persons that recycle glass or promote the recycling of glass as a way to better the environment.

Triveni Glass Ltd., an Indian maker of glass products that’s doubled in market value this year, plans to pay off debt and expand capacity of building products with cash it expects to get from selling assets.

Hoya Corp.’s Chief Executive Officer Hiroshi Suzuki may reveal the salaries of executives after a shareholder proposal from his 32-year-old cousin for full disclosure won backing from a minority of investors.
